Mind Control: God's Plan to Recapture Your Mind Part 1

I have been wrestling for some time now trying to be an authentic Christian. It is one thing to say: "I am a Christian!" and it is another thing to BE one. I have noticed for quite some time now that Christians in America for the most part are "Christians in-name-only!" Unfortunately, I have been one of them. We have politicians that claim the title, "Christian" and advocate sexual immorality, killing of babies (Abortion), blasphemy, reviling, slander, lying, cheating, stealing, and much more. If the definition of the word "Christian" depended on them and me, then I suppose the definition wouldn't mean anything. Thank God that Christian actually means something different than what some claim it to mean! I think that the word "Christian" came from a person (I don't know who at the moment) who was persecuting Christians. He was persecuting them because of their committment to Christ and their unwillingness to follow the government who raised themselves up as a deity. I think that their devotion is probably a good place to start. Of course in America everyone clings to love, joy, hope, faith, charity, happiness, contentment, and peace without really knowing what they are. I have noticed that many try to separate or redefine the words sin, hell, evil, satan, devil, demons, sheol, hades, judgment, reprobate, and the like. Now I will say that many do like to use the word "Justice," and many are on a conquest to redefine it's meaning along with the other words. Nevertheless, no matter how hard one tries to re-define something, God has the final say and He has His definition of justice, which is the right one. Many would like to play God and try to decide for Him what the outcome of your life would be. I cannot do that nor will I try. However, I can give you what the Bible says, and what it has said to me these last few days. You see, I have been living as a in-name-only Christian for too long. I would say that I was for right living according to the Bible, but wasn't willing to lift a finger to DO what it told me. I even went to seminary for a time and studied Theology, and of course I have decided to continue my studies since I left. But guess what?! All the book learning in the world will not save you unless you are willing to apply it. The devil and his demons know a lot of right Theology, but they hate God! I wouldn't have ever said before that I hated God, but not believing in His promises and following His ways are evidence that I do not really love Him. This has been one of my greatest sins, and I am ashamed. Nevertheless, I have decided to do something about it, and will STRIVE for God's gold standard by His grace. You see, you have to love God, and see Him for who he is. He is a loving, caring, nurturing, disciplining, and guiding Father. You can do this if it is what you really want. Here is the first text that blew my socks off!

1 Corinthians 5 NAS
1 It is actually reported that there is immorality among you, and immorality of such a kind as does not exist even among the Gentiles, that someone has his father's wife.
2 You have become arrogant and have not mourned instead, so that the one who had done this deed would be removed from your midst.
3 For I, on my part, though absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged him who has so committed this, as though I were present.
4 In the name of our Lord Jesus, when you are assembled, and I with you in spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus,
5 I have decided to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
6 Your boasting is not good Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough?
7 Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new lump, just as you are in fact unleavened. For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed.
8 Therefore let us celebrate the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
9 I wrote you in my letter not to associate with immoral people;
10 I did not at all mean with the immoral people of this world, or with the covetous and swindlers, or with idolaters, for then you would have to go out of the world.
11 But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler--not even to eat with such a one.
12 For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Do you not judge those who are within the church?
13 But those who are outside, God judges. REMOVE THE WICKED MAN FROM AMONG YOURSELVES.

A brother and mentor in Christ showed this text to me, and after I read this, I realized that the church should throw me out. In a way God has thrown me out into the world to be given to the devil and his demons for my salvation and ultimate good. As far as my church, I put on such a good act that nobody ever suspected me. I mean, the only time I see church folks is on Sunday, and the rest of the week, I am with folks from other churches and denominations or just plain unbelievers. But even they were a little fooled, because my wife only really saw the real me. One of my largest sins was reviling, which in effect is verbal abuse. I also struggled with many vices and people-pleasing. My mind was corrupted at an early age. I didn't really grow up in the Bible Belt, so most of what I saw and experienced was anti-Christian and anti-moral. Once one makes the decision to follow Jesus, they also have the task of making the decision to find out what it means to follow Him, and what kind of things we need to do with our minds. I read a book some time ago that really didn't have an impact on me until recently, and that book was called "The Enemy Within." In that book the author mentioned that the mind is the watchman of the soul. Well, my watchman has been on vacation, and the town has been ravaged! Therefore, I have needed a guide to get me on track so that I can re-establish the watchman post, and rebuild the town. Romans 8:13-17 has also been a pivotal text, and has given me hope in this low and dark time. Here it is:

Romans 8:13-17 ESV
13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, "Abba! Father!" 16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.

I don't know if you caught that last part, but Paul makes it sound like that we must suffer with Christ. Wow! I wonder how many people would walk the isle if that was preached on Sunday morning? But, it probably needs to be preached. There are so many people that need to hear this, and I was one of them. I think that John Owen once said: "Be killing sin, or sin will be killing you." That is straight out of the Bible. God told Cain just before he killed Abel out of greed and jealousy:

Genesis 4:6-8 (New International Version)
6 Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? 7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it." 8 Now Cain said to his brother Abel, "Let's go out to the field." And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.

Obviously, Cain lost, and sin overtook him. The question then comes: "How do I master my sin so that it doesn't take me?" My mentor Brother Ray told me that it begins with the mind. I will discuss that in the next post.
