Context is important when trying to understand the Bible and other ancient texts. I have been guilty of thinking in terms of myself and the context I live in while interpreting the Bible. I also have been guilty of projecting the Bible in either Enlightenment or Medieval contexts. However, to understand the Bible, we have to perceive it's message it in the context of the original authors and the audience they were writing to. Dr Walton is famous for saying that the Bible was written "for us," but it wasn't written "to us." This is the approach we need to take when trying to interpret the sacred text. This video is about the Ancient Near East and the contexts of the Scripture. I hope this is helpful.
